  Excellent build quality but difficult to install on a 1250 GS Adventure The build quality of this item is excellent and looks fantastic on the BMW R1250 GS Adventure. I would have given it 5 stars but the installation on the adventure model was challenging. The issue is that the bottom bracket mount holes are difficult to get lined up with the bolts and get the bolt threaded since the adventure model fairing obscures the hole and you can't see what you are doing.I'm sure it is much easier with another person holding back the fairing while installing the bolts into the threaded bracket. There must be some cleaver way of making this easier but it eluded me.

  Not so easy install on new 1250 Adv Took longer than it should to install but I still give 5 stars because I have looked at the many brands of headlight guards offered and I still think the AltRider is best and AltRider were smartest to use two available unused mounting holes in the cockpit frame for the lower mounts--neat and tidy for you Motorrad obsessives. I'm telling you, you need the quick release feature; turbulence behind the guard makes the headlight dirty and you will need to clean the headlight almost as often as the guard. (I tried another brand w/o the quick release--no good.) But the AltRider was not an easy install on my R1250GSA. As indicated in the instructions, the bodywork on the Adventure version "partially obscures" the holes. In the case of my R1250GSA, I would say "partially obscures" meant about 90% covered. It was an awkward three-hand job: line up the parts with one hand from the top, insert the bolt from the bottom, and flex the body work back (so it wasn't a completely blind task) from the side. It was a bit easier once I removed the two screws back by the gas tank cover (the two that go through the clear wind deflectors on my 1250 Adventure), so the bodywork would flex easier. (I wish everyone used the pointed screws like BMW OEM wherever you have to line up holes like this. Could probably do this job in the dark with screws like those.)

  Look No Further I purchased the headlight guard a few months back before heading to Moab to join the Dirt Circus on their annual ride. As I've already purchased and installed the AltRider lower bars and skid plate, I figured that I had better stick with what I know and get their headlight guard as well. After having the guard on now since late March, I can speak freely about this review. First of all, I ride a 2017 GS Rallye and if you know anything about the Beemers, it's that the parts aren't cheap. The headlight and housing is over $1000 and that's an investment that you want to protect. So when I saw the price of the AltRider guard, there wasn't any reason to shop around. I did; however, do my research and they still came out on top. Secondly, it has to be THE easiest install of any of the other headlight guards out there. A friend of mine that also owns a GS, told me that he has had other guards but they take upwards of an hour or more requiring removal of other pieces of the bike first. That's not the case here. I can assemble/install the guard in less than 20 minutes easily. Finally, the removal for cleaning or whatever else is necessary to get you back to the lens of your headlight is a simple firm pull of the guard. It doesn't get any easier. Keep the bushings lubricated whenever sliding back in to avoid pushing the bushing out the other side and it will make things better for you too. It's the last headlight guard that you need.

  AltRider Headlight Guard I found out how much the head light was and order this immediately. I liked this one because the grill will come will snap off for easy cleaning of the headlight. I purchased the black with black grill. Looks great on my red and black R1200GSA. Installation can be frigidity getting the bottom screws lined up with the bracket but not bad.

  AltRider Clear Headlight Guard I should have purchased this product sooner! I regularly ride on overgrown single track trails with branches bouncing off my headlight. The frame is very solid, four bolts total, and a removable thick piece of polycarbonate. I can see this product stop a good sized piece of roost and not cause any damage. Very well designed, everything fit in perfectly! Installation time took about 10 - 15 minutes, and only 4 screw had to be removed to fit in the frame pieces.
